30 Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike for 5th day in a row

Thursday 29-September-2022

30 Palestinian prisoners on Thursday continued their open-ended hunger strike for the fifth day in a row in protest at their administrative detention.

“28 hunger striking detainees were placed in four rooms in the Ofer prison” the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) underlined adding that the remaining two: prisoner Salah al-Hammouri is held in Hadarim prison isolation while prisoner Ghassan Zawahra is held in Negev prison isolation.

The PPS stressed that the Israeli prison administration has been practicing repressive measures against the hunger striking prisoners including denying them family visits in addition to subjecting them to constant transfers or placing them in solitary confinement.

“New groups of detainees will join the hunger strike if the Israeli authorities escalate issuing administrative detention orders against Palestinians” the PPS affirmed.

It called for condemning the Israeli policy of administrative detention in addition to supporting the Palestinian detainees who started their open-ended hunger strike.

Earlier on Wednesday the Israeli occupation authorities extended the administrative detention order of the hunger-striking prisoner Basil Mezher for three months.

780 administrative detainees including six minors and two women are being held in the Israeli prisons mostly in Ofer and Negev prisons.
