PPS: Prisoner Abu Hamid suffers from serious health complications

Tuesday 20-September-2022

Serious developments occurred during the past few hours regarding the health of Palestinian cancer-stricken prisoner Nasser Abu Hamid who is facing death in the Ramla jail’s infirmary according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS).

“Prisoner Abu Hamid started to suffer from near-total paralysis severe pains in the spine and other health complications” PPS said in a statement on Tuesday.

PPS pointed out that three of his brothers were able to visit him today in Ramla jail following pressures from his follow prisoners on Israeli jailers adding that they were allowed to see him in the visitor room while they were being handcuffed and escorted by eight jailers.

Abu Hamid hails from al-Am’ari refugee camp in Ramallah. He has been in jail since 2002 serving several life sentences after an Israeli court accused him of being involved in alleged attacks during the second Palestinian Intifada (uprising).

Abu Hamid was diagnosed with lung cancer in August 2021 after the Israeli prison service ignored his need for medical examinations and treatment for a long period of time according to Palestinian rights groups.
