Palestinian administrative detainees freeze strike plan

Monday 27-June-2022

Palestinian administrative detainees decided to postpone their open hunger strike until September 2022 the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) revealed on Monday.

The prisoners gave a month to the Israeli Prison Service (IPS) as an evaluation for its commitment to the agreement previously agreed upon on the 178th day of their boycott of the Israeli courts PPS added.

The prisoners decided to freeze their hunger strike plans but they would continue boycotting Israeli courts.

The administrative detainees had taken the collective position of declaring the comprehensive boycott of all judicial proceedings relating to administrative detention (judicial review appeal supreme).

The boycott of the occupation courts causes confusion in the administration of the occupation’s prisons so they usually take punitive measures against detainees such as denial of visits and renewed administrative detention.

Administrative detention is detention without charge or trial and without allowing the detainee or his lawyer to get acquainted with the alleged charges in clear violation of the provisions of international humanitarian law. Israel is the only government in the world that adopts this policy.
