OIC: Al-Aqsa Mosque is a red line

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) warned against harming Al-Aqsa Mosque stressing that it is a “red line” and it will not accept any illegal measures that affect the occupied city of Jerusalem.

This came in a final statement issued by an extraordinary meeting of the Jeddah-based Organization’s Executive Committee (comprising 57 countries) at the level of permanent delegates on Monday. The meeting was called for to discuss Israel’s attacks against the Mosque at the request of Indonesia and in consultation with Saudi Arabia the current head of the OIC.

Israeli policemen stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem last Friday which resulted in confrontations with Palestinian worshipers injuring dozens of them two of them seriously.

The statement stressed that “Al-Quds Al-Sharif and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque the first of the two Qiblahs and the third holiest site in Islam are a red line for the Islamic nation.”

It called on member states to rally around Jerusalem defend it and its sanctities confront Israel’s crimes lend support to the Palestinian people and provide them with the elements of steadfastness in the face of “the Israeli barbaric attacks.”

The statement condemned the continuation of the attacks of the Israeli policemen and the extremist settlers on the worshipers in the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Al-Haram Al-Sharif which escalated dangerously during the past few days of the holy month of Ramadan.

It described such attacks as blatant provocation to the feelings of Muslims and a continuation of the aggression against the Palestinian people and Jerusalem and its holy sites holding Israel responsible for the consequences of such practices.

The statement also called for “rejecting all illegal measures that affect the status quo at the Holy City of Jerusalem.”
