Wednesday 5-January-2022

UN Spokesman Stephane Dujarric has welcomed on Tuesday evening the deal agreed with the striking prisoner Hisham Abu Hawwash.

“We have always made it clear that detainees must be tried according to legal procedures or released” Dujarric said.

For its part Hamas Movement has offered congratulations to “the Palestinian people and the Arab and Muslim world on the victory of the Palestinian detainee Hisham Abu Hawash in his heroic battle against the Israeli occupation.”

Abu Hawash has shown a legendary steadfastness in the face of Israeli occupation’s terrorism and arrogance the Movement said in a press release issued Tuesday evening.

“We salute Abu Hawash and all the Palestinian detainees who are on hunger strike in Israeli occupation prisons” the statement reads.

This victory reflects the sources of strength that the Palestinian people and detainees have to win all of their battles against the Israeli occupation the Movement underlined.

Hamas further hailed all efforts exerted and activities held by the Palestinian people the Arab and Muslim nations and the free peoples of the world in solidarity with Abu Hawash.

This came after Palestinian prisoner Hisham Abu Hawash ended his 141-day hunger strike launched to protest being imprisoned without charge after reaching a deal with Israel to be released next month.

Abu Hawash a 40-year-old father of five is the latest of several Palestinians to go on hunger strike to protest being held under “administrative detention” a measure where a prisoner is held indefinitely without charge or trial.
