An Israeli court on Sunday ordered the conditional release of Sheikh Najeh Bakirat deputy director of the Islamic Awqaf in Jerusalem after the Israeli occupation police kidnaped him last Wednesday from the Old City.
Sheikh Bakirat said that the court released him on unfair conditions and based on trumped-up charges accusing him of being an influential person in Jerusalem especially with regard to his sermons his role as a local reformer and his participation in different social cultural humanitarian events.
He added that the court ordered him to stay away from the Aqsa Mosque for 20 days and the West Bank for 30 days and to pay a fine of 2000 shekels.
Last Wednesday police and intelligence officers had intercepted Sheikh Bakirat’s car near the Bab al-Asbat area in the Old City of Jerusalem and took him to a detention center in the holy city where he was exposed to days of interrogation about his work at the Aqsa Mosque and his social activities in the holy city.
