Senior Hamas official Wasfi Qabha dies at age 62

On Thursday top Hamas official Wasfi Qabha passed away at the age of 62 after suffering from COVID complications.

In recent weeks Qabha’s health seriously worsened and he had been placed under total anesthesia and attached to a ventilator.

Qabha is a former minister of prisoners’ affairs in the tenth Palestinian government (Ismail Haneyya’s government). He was exposed to several serious assaults and survived assassination attempts. He was also arrested several times and spent about 13 years in Israeli jails.

He was born in the village of Barta’a west of Jenin on June 19 1959 and completed his education in the schools of his village and Jenin City.

He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Detroit in the United States of America in 1984. He received an intensive higher diploma in water resources management in 1994 — coordinated by Birzeit University and IHE Institute – Delft / The Netherlands.
