Wednesday 26-May-2021

Palestinian prisoner Al-Ghadhanfar Abu Atwan has entered day 22 of his open-ended hunger strike in protest at his administrative detention with no indictment or trial.

According to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) on Wednesday the Israeli prison service recently transferred prisoner Abu Atwan 28 to an isolation cell in Ohalei Kedar (Beersheba) prison to pressure him to end his hunger strike.

Abu Atwan has been in administrative detention since October 2020. He had been detained administratively several times before.

At the behest of their government the Israeli security and intelligence apparatuses have escalated the detention of Palestinian citizens administratively during May.

According to PPS 155 orders to detain Palestinians administratively or extend previous such orders had been issued between May 1 and 20 of the same month which has increased the number of administrative detainees to about 500 Palestinians.
