Gaza youths injured as IOF attacks night border rallies

Sunday 9-May-2021

Several Gazan young men suffered injuries on Saturday night after the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) attacked them as they rallied on the border in solidarity with Jerusalem its people and the Aqsa Mosque.

According to the local media in Gaza hundreds of young people rallied in different areas of the eastern Gaza border and participated in nightly confusion activities and protests in support of Jerusalem which is exposed nowadays to frenzied Israeli aggression

The IOF fired rubber bullets at the young protesters and showered them with tear gas and stun grenades as they torched rubber tires and throw homemade fire bombs towards the Israeli side of the border.

Gazan youths also embarked on Saturday evening and at dawn Sunday on flying helium balloons affixed with flaming materials towards the occupied territories near Gaza.

Such activities started to take place after Gazan youth groups announced their intention on social media to resume using all protest means on the border to express solidarity with Jerusalem.

In a related incident an Israeli warplane at dawn Sunday bombed a Palestinian resistance post in the east of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza.

A spokesperson for the Israeli army claimed that the aerial attack was in response to the fall of a Palestinian rocket in an open Israeli area near the Gaza border.

Such developments in Gaza happened after another night of Israeli police violence left dozens of Palestinians wounded in the Old City of Jerusalem and the nearby neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah.

However an estimated 90000 Muslim worshippers on Saturday prayed at the Aqsa Mosque on the holy night of Laylat al-Qadr the most sacred of prayers during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

Meanwhile the Israeli occupation police on Sunday gave the green light to Monday’s annual “Jerusalem reunification day” parade a flag-waving display of Israeli claims to all of the city despite the rising friction and potential for further violence according to al-Jazeera satellite channel.

Monday’s parade is typically attended by extremist and violent Jewish settlers and is widely perceived as provocative.
