House arrest and banishment for Jerusalemite paramedic

Thursday 29-April-2021

The Israeli occupation police on Wednesday released a Jerusalemite paramedic after deciding to place him under house arrest for five days and ban his presence in Bab al-Amud area and Sultan Suleiman street for two weeks.

On Tuesday night police officers physically assaulted a number of Palestinian paramedics in Bab al-Amud area near the Aqsa Mosque and rounded up one of them identified as Louay Jaafira.

Director of Amal Society for Health Services Abdul-Majeed Abu Sneineh explained that police forces at that night assaulted one of the society’s crews as it was doing its job as usual in Bab al-Amud through providing medical assistance for citizens who suffered injuries from police assaults.

Abu Sneineh added that police forces severely beat paramedic Jaafira before arresting him with no reason.

He said that Jaafira was taken to a police station in Salahuddin street in the holy city and released later on condition of not leaving home for five days and staying away from Bab al-Amud and Sultan Suleiman street for 15 days.

Since the first day of the holy month of Ramadan the Israeli occupation police have been harassing Palestinian paramedics in Bab al-Amud area in particular and obstructing their work.
