PLC holds Israel responsible for prisoners’ lives

Tuesday 19-January-2021

Ahmed Bahar the first deputy speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) has accused the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) of intentional medical negligence against the Palestinian prisoners in its prisons.

Bahar affirmed during the rally organized in solidarity with prisoners on Tuesday that the IOA ignored the recommendations of international human rights organizations and institutions to release the prisoners for fear of the outbreak of coronavirus in its prisons.

He pointed out that there are great concerns for the lives of prisoners due to overcrowding in IOA prisons and due to gross violations of their rights.

He held the IOA responsible for the lives of the prisoners and called for providing the COVID-19 vaccine for them.

The deputy speaker stressed the need for doubling the efforts to protect prisoners in the occupation prisons as the number of prisoners infected with the coronavirus reached 250.

Meanwhile Bahaa Al-Din Al-Madhoun the undersecretary of the Ministry of Prisoners and Ex-prisoners that organized the rally called on the World Health Organization the Red Cross and human rights organizations to take practical and urgent steps to save the lives of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons.

Madhoun stressed that the IOA has not taken any preventive measure to protect prisoners and the majority of prisoners infected with the coronavirus suffer from acute symptoms.

For his part Hani Hassouna the leader of the Popular Front-General Command stressed in a speech on behalf of the Palestinian resistance factions that the resistance forces will not stand idle vis-à-vis such violations and systematic crimes that are committed daily against Palestinian prisoners.

He called on the Palestinian Authority to assume its responsibilities towards the prisoners and to return salaries to prisoners and to bring the occupation leaders before international courts.
