IOF continues to close main entrance to Al-Arroub camp for 7th day

Saturday 24-October-2020

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) continue to close the main entrance to Al-Arroub refugee camp north of al-Khalil for the seventh day in a row.

Local sources said that the IOF soldiers have been closing the camp’s iron gate and setting up barricades at the entrance to the camp for the past seven days. They are also preventing vehicles from crossing the main road which forces the inhabitants to take long and bypass roads to reach the camp.

Al-Arroub camp is witnessing continuous confrontations with IOF which daily harasses its inhabitants and damages their property.

The occupation authorities previously issued a military order to confiscate 401 dunums of Al-Arroub camp lands and of the towns of Beit Ummar and Halhul to construct a road that extends from Etzion north of al-Khalil to Halhul (bypassing Al-Aroub) to serve nearby settlements. The construction of this road will expropriate more than 1273 dunums of Palestinian land after its completion.

The road will isolate the camp the town of Beit Ummar and large areas of Halhul city. It aims to link the so-called Greater Jerusalem with the Kiryat Arba and Karmi Tzur settlements.
