Palestinians injured as IOF quells anti-normalization protest

Saturday 19-September-2020

Four Palestinian young men were injured by rubber bullets and many others suffered from their exposure to tear gas on Saturday evening when the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) attacked their march in Kafr Qaddum town east of Qalqilya.

Local official Murad Shetaiwi said the march which was staged to protest the Arab normalization deals with Israel was attacked by the IOF as it was heading for the military barrier on the main road of the village.

He added that the IOF showered the young participants with tear gas canisters and intensively fired rubber bullets at them leading four of them to suffer from bullet wounds and dozens from inhaling gas fumes.

On Friday afternoon the IOF quelled the Kafr Qaddum march which is organized weekly to demand the reopening of the village’s southern road— blocked by the IOF 16 years ago.

This road is the main route to the nearby city of Nablus the nearest economic center.

The Israeli army blocked off the road after expanding the illegal settlement of Kedumim in 2003 forcing village residents to take a bypass road in order to travel to Nablus which has extended the travel time to Nablus from 15 minutes to 40 minutes according to Israeli rights group B’Tselem.
