Muhammad Thabet director of public relations and media at the Gaza Electricity Distribution Company said that the schedule currently in effect in Gaza Strip has not changed and the company operates according to 4 hours of power supply followed by 16 hours blackout.
Thabet stressed in an interview with the PIC that the electricity company is working to supply the facilities that are most vital and neediest for electricity. These facilities include: hospitals water wells and wastewater pumps.
He stated that the company continues its full coordination at the highest levels with the municipalities of Gaza Strip pointing out that the Gaza Strip suffers from a severe crisis due to the scarcity of power supply.
He underlined that the Gaza power station is still shut down and there has been no change. “The situation in Gaza Strip is very difficult and our teams are under great pressure in order to provide the limited available quantities of electricity to the people” he added.
Earlier the Union of Municipalities of Gaza Strip warned of “disastrous consequences resulting from the stoppage of the operation of the only power station in the Strip”.
The station stopped operating ten days ago due to the Israeli ban on entry of the fuel needed to operate it as part of its recent decisions to tighten the blockade on the Strip.
