IOF injures four Gazans in night protests

Sunday 16-August-2020

Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Saturday night heavily opened fire at Palestinians protesting near the eastern border fence of the Gaza Strip injuring four of them.

The Palestinian Information Center’s reporter said that at least four Palestinian youths were injured by IOF live fire and rushed to al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City for treatment.

Dozens of Palestinian youths on Saturday marched along the border fence east of the Gaza Strip resuming the night-time protests which were stopped in 2019 following understandings reached with Israel under the auspices of Egypt Qatar and the United Nations.

Youths in Gaza’s night protests usually burn car tires and launch fireworks and fire balloons towards adjacent Israeli settlements. Their aim is to pressure Israel to end the 14-year-long blockade which comes as part of a collective punishment policy it pursues against the people of the Gaza Strip.

The protests have been resumed in response to Israel’s violation of the 2019 understandings.
