The Israel Prison Service at Ramla jail continues to keep two Palestinian women under harsh conditions in solitary confinement for the 12th day in a row.
Palestinian detainees Fadwa Hamada and Jihan Hsheima have been placed in solitary confinement for confronting an Israeli guard who violently assaulted one of the prisoners.
Fadwa Hamada was arrested in 2017 and sentenced to 10 years in jail while Jihan Hsheima was arrested in 2016 and sentenced to four years. Hsheima is still suffering from a bullet injury she sustained during her arrest.
Israel holds about 40 Palestinian girls and women in its jails under inhumane conditions the longest-serving of whom is Amal Taqatqa who has been detained since 2014.
Shatila Abu Eiada and Shorouq Dweikat are serving the highest prison term which is 16 years.
Over the years Israeli occupation authorities have arrested over 16000 Palestinian women. During he Frist Intifada alone about 3000 were arrested.
