The Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs has accused Israeli jailers of committing a medical crime against cancer-stricken prisoner Muwafaq Arouk 77 whose life reached a life-threatening stage after he underwent major surgery recently.
Prisoner Arouk who had his stomach and a large part of his intestine removed in early February now suffers from severe pains high temperature and a considerable drop in body weight and he can only eat and drink using a tube going through a surgical opening in his abdominal area.
According to the Commission Israeli doctors had discovered that Arouk had cancer in the liver and stomach last July but the Israeli prison service kept stalling his transfer to a special hospital to receive chemotherapy until last November which aggravated his condition.
It affirmed that the prisoner needs ongoing and proper follow-up care following the surgery he underwent or there would be further complications threatening his life.
Arouk a 77-year-old from the 1984 occupied lands has been in jail since 2003 serving a 30-year term.
He is one of 10 patients in Israeli jails suffering from different types of cancer.
