The deputy director of the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf Council Sheikh Najeh Bakirat has labeled the plan proposed by a member of Israel’s Knesset to divide the Al-Aqsa Mosque as a serious escalation and a blatant aggression against the Arab and Islamic Nation.
In a press statement on Thursday Bakirat stressed that such plans constitute a deliberate attempt to impose the temporal and spatial division on the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
“The Knesset has been discussing similar plans since 2015” Bakirat underlined affirming that the Knesset is this time seriously considering such plans.
Member of Knesset Amit Halevi has been promoting a plan to divide the Al-Aqsa Mosque by seizing control of the northern area of the Mosque in addition to the Dome of the Rock in favor of Jewish settlers.
The plan also aims at allowing Jewish settlers to break into the Al-Aqsa Mosque through all its gates not only the Maghariba Gate in addition to annulling Jordan’s role as custodian of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
