PPS holds Israeli jailers fully responsible for life of prisoner

Monday 2-October-2023

The Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) has held the Israeli prison service (IPS) fully responsible for the life of prisoner Mahmoud Abu Dhariee who has been suffering from worsening health issues for several days.

PPS said that the prisoners in Ramon jail had informed the prison administration that if Abu Dhariee was not transferred again to hospital to have his health condition seriously diagnosed they would have to take protest steps.

PPS affirmed that prisoner Abu Dhariee is exposed to deliberate medical neglect as part of a systematic Israeli policy pursued against the Palestinian prisoners in general.

Prisoner Abu Dhariee who has been serving a life sentence since 2003 was transferred yesterday from Ramon jail to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba but he was sent back overnight to the prison without being provided with any medical treatment.

Later on Sunday morning his health condition deteriorated more seriously so the jailers took him to the prison’s infirmary.

In a related context PPS reported on Monday that the Israeli high court of justice in Occupied Jerusalem decided to refer the legal file of prisoner Kayed al-Fasfous who has been on hunger strike for 61 days to the military court of appeals.

The Israeli military court of appeals had already rejected an appeal filed by Fasfous’s lawyer calling for ending his administrative detention.

The high court of justice in Occupied Jerusalem held on Monday morning a hearing over an appeal filed against the administrative detention of Fasfous.
