Friday 17-November-2006

Rafah – The Israeli occupation authorities closed down on Thursday the Rafah crossing in both directions. Gaza’s only gateway to the outside world was open Tuesday and Wednesday allowing thousands of stranded passengers to cross into and out of the Gaza Strip.

Palestinian security sources said that the occupation authorities informed the Egyptian side of the closure without setting a date for reopening it.

Around 3206 stranded Palestinians managed to cross the border crossing in the two days that it was open 2156 of them crossed on Tuesday and 1050 crossed on Wednesday.

Meanwhile the Israeli occupation authorities continue to close for the ninth day running the Abu Salem commercial crossing. A number of Egyptian lorries carrying food aid for the Palestinians in Gaza are stranded as a result of the closure.
