With half of his body burned, the injured Raja Abu Oweida lay on his stomach on a recovery bed at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, suffering from the pain of his wounds and burns, and mourning the loss of several of his children and relatives who were martyrs in an Israeli massacre.

Abu Oweida recites praises and prayers as he recounts his suffering, pleading with everyone to assist him in traveling abroad for treatment due to the lack of proper medical care in the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli destruction of hospitals and the blockade.

The day of the massacre
Raja Abu Oweida sustained severe injuries from an Israeli airstrike that targeted his home in the Ma’an neighborhood east of Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, on August 14.

This attack also resulted in the martyrdom of his four children and injured his wife and fifth son. On that day, Israeli planes launched several missiles at the home of the Abu Shahma family, destroying it over the heads of its occupants and causing many casualties, while also demolishing the Abu Oweida family’s house, which was reduced to rubble, turning its inhabitants into martyrs and injured, a scene that has been repeated daily and continuously since the onset of the criminal genocide against Gaza on October 7, 2023.

Raja Abu Oweida lost his right eye and both legs due to the bombing, in addition to suffering severe burns across his body, which is entirely wrapped in medical gauze as he lies on his stomach since his injury.

A plea for medical travel
Abu Oweida states that he was injured in his home in Ma’an and is enduring indescribable pain, emphasizing his urgent need for treatment abroad. He appeals to the world to facilitate his travel for medical care. He fears for his wife and fifth son, who are receiving treatment in the hospital, and despite his own severe injuries, he continuously inquires about their condition, praying for their safety and recovery.

Abu Oweida cannot turn over in bed; he sleeps in one position, lying on his stomach, due to the severe burns on his back. He says, “I’ve been in this condition for a week.” He continues, tears in his eyes, expressing that the pain is killing him every second, yet he remains faithful in God’s decree and constantly says, “Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.”

He adds, “I can’t sleep from the pain; it’s all over my body. I appeal to those with compassionate hearts to help save me, my wife, and my son.”

According to official reports, 25,000 injured and ill individuals urgently need to travel abroad for treatment, as the Israeli occupation deliberately destroys hospitals and renders them non-operational, casting a heavy shadow over thousands of the injured and sick.
