The Israeli occupation army continues to target Palestinian elites and creatives in the Gaza Strip amid ongoing genocide for over a year. The latest victim is Dr. Ashraf Al-Jadi, Dean of the Nursing College at the Islamic University.

According to local sources, Dr. Al-Jadi was martyred after the occupation targeted a school housing displaced persons in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza on Thursday 24/10/2024.

He was one of the Quran memorizers in Gaza, having participated in the “Elite of Memorizers” competition, where he succeeded in reciting the entire Quran in a single session. Eyewitnesses from the bombed school reported that Dr. Al-Jadi was martyred during a Quran recitation session.

According to Dr. Al-Jadi’s Facebook account, he has six children, four of whom have memorized the entire Quran. He was waiting for his youngest children, Hamza and Bisan, to complete their memorization of the Quran.

Dr. Al-Jadi had congratulated his daughter Sana on completing her Quran memorization, writing: “The sweetest, most beautiful, and dearest occasion… my precious daughter Sana Ashraf Al-Jadi is a new memorizer of the Book of Allah in our home, following in the footsteps of her siblings Asil, Bara, and Muhammad, and on the same path are Hamza and Bisan. Praise be to Allah for His great blessings and generous gifts… May God make us and you among the people of the Quran; His people and special ones.”

In 2021, Dr. Ashraf Al-Jadi received a reviewer certificate for scientific research from the American journal “Nursing Open,” which is internationally recognized and published by the renowned publisher Wiley. This was after evaluating and reviewing four scientific papers by international researchers recently published in the journal’s 2020 issues.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Al-Jadi earned his PhD in public health from Bielefeld University in Germany and recently attained professorship, having numerous published research papers in national and international journals.

Dr. Ashraf Al-Jadi received licenses for Quran memorization and celebrated obtaining an uninterrupted chain of transmission in Quranic recitation. He wrote on his Facebook account: “By Allah’s grace and blessing, I have been granted the Quranic chain of transmission connected to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, through the recitation of Imam Asim, with his narrators Shu’bah and Hafs, in the presence of my esteemed teacher, the licensed reciter Mustafa Abu Hasbullah, and his teacher Dr. Imad Abu Ghori, along with the Sheikh of Palestinian reciters and President of the Quran and Sunnah House, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Jamal.”

He added, “It is a profound moment that sends shivers down the spine and stirs the mind and heart to have your name connected in the pure chain linked to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, in the recitation of the Quran. I ask Allah to make this work sincere and to accept it from me as an intercessor on the Day of Judgment, and to reward our reciters and teachers of the Quran with the best rewards.”

His youngest son, Hamza, mourned his father and told our correspondent, “My life was filled with significant scientific achievements, and his heart was devoted to the Book of Allah in memorization, knowledge, and contemplation, until he obtained the uninterrupted chain from the Messenger of Allah.”

Hamza added that his father encouraged him and his siblings to love knowledge and the Quran, as both deepen a Palestinian’s love for their land and help them liberate it from the hands of the occupiers.

Hamza confirmed that he and his siblings are very saddened by their father’s martyrdom; however, they express their pride in him and their esteem for his honorable history and contributions in the fields of health and the Quran.

He explained that what adds to their pride despite the pain and sadness is that he ascended as a martyr during a session of Quran recitation, having passed the tests of the elite reciters in its second season.
