Hundreds of schools, including those run by the UN, in the besieged Gaza Strip have been bombed, and students and teachers killed, in more than 440 days of Israeli bombardment that has ravaged educational infrastructure and caused mental trauma to thousands of beleaguered students.
Schools have gone from safe havens of education for children living under blockade to overcrowded shelters, becoming places of death and misery.
The war has robbed every boy and girl in Gaza of their childhood and education. More than 625,000 students have been out of learning since the war began, half of them were going to UNRWA schools. They have all lost a year of education and learning to the war, risking becoming a lost generation. They have all witnessed unimaginable atrocities no child should go through.
