Hamas spokesman Abdul-Latif Qanu had described Israeli security minister Itamar Ben Gvir’s decision to prevent the waiving and holding of Palestinian flags in public places as a “racist behavior.”
In a statement on Monday spokesman Qanu stressed that such a desperate attempt to erase a symbol of the Palestinian national identity would fail.
“The Palestinian flag will continue to fly across the Palestinian land as a symbol for the existence of the Palestinian people and their attachment to their historical land and as a witness to their national identity and their unity and struggle against the short-lived fascist Zionist occupation.”
According to the Hebrew media Ben Gvir ordered police to ban Palestinian flags from being carried or waived in public places claiming that the holding of Palestinian flags is an act that supports terrorism.
“It cannot be that lawbreakers wave terrorist flags incite and encourage terrorism so I ordered the removal of flags supporting terrorism from the public space and to stop the incitement against Israel” the security minister who is notorious as being a provocateur said in Twitter remarks.
