IOA extends detention of cancer-stricken Abdul-Basset Mi’taan

Wednesday 18-January-2023

The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) informed cancer-stricken prisoner Abdul-Basset Mi’taan a 48-year-old from Burqa town in Ramallah of its decision to extend his administrative detention despite his suffering from a growing decline in his health condition.

In a statement on Tuesday the Palestinian Prisoner Society said that prisoner Mi’taan suffers from a continuous decrease in weight while the Israeli prison service is reluctant to provide him with medical treatment.

Since his detention Mi’taan was transferred twice to a hospital where a doctor told him that he had a mass on his lung following a chest X-ray and medical tests.

He had undergone several surgeries before his last arrest during which a part of his colon was removed. Later doctors found that there were still cancerous cells in his body that were likely to spread.

Three months after his release from an Israeli jail the Israeli occupation forces kidnaped Mi’taan from his home in July 2022 with no regard for his serious health condition.

Last August the Israeli military court in Ofer jail ordered the administrative detention of Mi’taan for six months.
