IOF displaces villagers in JV to carry out military drills

Thursday 9-February-2023

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) notified four Palestinian families living in Khirbet Humsa al-Baqi’ah hamlet in the northern Jordan Valley of their intent to carry out military drills on Thursday near their homes and ordered them to leave the area.

32 individuals mostly children were ordered to leave their homes in the hamlet from 8:30 pm to 11:30 pm at the pretext of military exercises according to local sources.

In July 2021 the Israeli army’s civil administration demolished 30 homes and structures in Humsa al-Baqi’ah displacing its residents.

The Israeli army frequently conducts live fire exercises after displacing many Bedouin families in the Jordan Valley and the central West Bank.

Rights groups say the Israeli army uses the pretext of military drills in order to expel Palestinians from the area a policy it has been implementing for long years.

The Israeli army’s incessant military training in the northern Jordan Valley is part of Israel’s longstanding policy aimed at making living conditions in Palestinian communities unbearable and forcing the local residents out of their areas according to rights groups.

The displacement of civilians firing of live ammunition explosions and road closures that take place during such drills are not reported by Israeli and international media.
