Hamas deplores burning of Quran in Denmark

Sunday 26-March-2023

The Hamas Movement has strongly denounced the burning of a copy of the holy Quran in the Danish capital Copenhagen.

In a statement on Saturday Hamas described the incident as “incitement to hatred violence and extremism” and an “act of provocation to the feelings of Muslims around the world.”

The Movement called on the Danish government to stop such provocations that constitute an environment for extremism and a violation against freedom of worship and belief as enshrined in the international law.

On Friday members of an extremist Danish group burned the Turkish flag and a copy of the holy Qur’an in front of the Turkish embassy in Copenhagen and broadcast its crime live on Facebook.

The fanatics also carried placards and chanted slogans against the Islamic religion.

Ankara denounced on Saturday the desecration of the holy Quran and the Turkish flag in Denmark the second such instance in the country this year.

The incident late Friday was a hate crime the Turkish foreign ministry said stressing that Turkiye would never accept such “vile actions being allowed under the guise of freedom of expression.”

“This act which was carried out in (the holy Islamic month of) Ramadan has once again clearly revealed that Islamophobia discrimination and xenophobia have reached an alarming level in Europe and that no lessons have been learned from the past” it added.

The ministry urged the Danish authorities to take immediate action against the perpetrators and concrete measures to prevent further provocations that threaten social harmony and peaceful coexistence.
