The health condition of Palestinian prisoner Walid Daqqa who suffers from cancer has reached a life-threatening stage.
According to the Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs prisoner Daqqa underwent lung surgery last Wednesday at Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon following a sharp decline in his condition.
He is currently in the hospital’s intensive care unit after a large part of his right lung was removed.
The Commission said that there are efforts underway to have prisoner Daqqa released.
Daqqa is a Palestinian writer and activist who has been in Israeli jails since 1986.
He was diagnosed last year with myelofibrosis – a rare form of bone marrow cancer that disrupts the body’s normal production of blood cells.
