Hamas: Our prisoners is a top priority during our battles

Wednesday 19-April-2023

The Hamas Movement said that the information that was revealed by the Hebrew media about the operation that had been carried out by its armed wing al-Qassam Brigades behind enemy lines in 2014 confirmed that the issue of the Palestinian prisoners is a top priority for it during its battles with the Israeli occupation.

In press remarks on Wednesday Hamas spokesman Hazem Qasem said that what was revealed by the Hebrew media about that operation was a “small part of the heroism and valor of al-Qassam fighters and their ability to confuse the Israeli occupation army.”

Spokesman Qasem pointed out that al-Qassam Brigades obtained accurate intelligence information about the Israeli army during the 2014 battle and was able to mislead its security system.

Israel’s Channel 12 said on Tuesday evening that the Israeli army killed one of its soldiers on purpose at the beginning of the 2014 war on Gaza after Palestinian fighters from al-Qassam Brigades infiltrated a military post behind the border fence in northern Gaza and tried to capture him.

The channel broadcast video footage taken by a drone showing one of al-Qassam fighters approaching a military jeep after it was targeted by the Brigades during an ambush on July 21 2014 before 10 other fighters just left a nearby tunnel.

The video also showed the fighter’s attempt to capture the soldier who was inside the jeep before a military drone fired one missile at them. The channel’s report however did not state if the soldier was dead or alive before the jeep was bombed.

One of the Israeli officers who was responsible for operating reconnaissance planes told the channel that the army did not want to see the kidnapping incident of Gilad Shalit happen again so it decided to bomb the jeep.

According to the channel the Israeli information at the time confirmed the presence of four soldiers inside the jeep after al-Qassam fighters targeted it but there was an order to activate the “Hannibal Protocol” that states that any kidnapping incident must be prevented at all cost even if the price is the life of a soldier.
