Hamas slams Israeli plan to open road linking Jl’em with settlements

Tuesday 2-May-2023

Hamas Movement condemned the Israeli plan to open a road that connects Occupied Jerusalem with the so-called Ma’ale Adumim settlement.

In a statement issued Monday Hamas spokesman for Occupied Jerusalem Muhammad Hamada deemed this plan a crime aimed at facilitating Israeli settlement expansion along the road.

It is also intended to isolate the Khan al-Ahmar village from other Palestinian Bedouin villages the statement reads.

Hamada believed that this plan is part of a scheme intended to annex more Palestinian lands.

Hamada further called on the United Nations and the international community to work towards halting the Israeli settlement plans in the West Bank that amount to a serious escalation against Palestinian rights.

Earlier Monday Haaretz Hebrew newspaper revealed that the Israeli Civil Administration announced that at the beginning of May drilling and inspection work will begin for the preparation of paving a road between el-Azariya and a-Za’im near the illegal settlement of Ma’ale Adumim.

The road will annex Ma’ale Adumim to Israel and promote the construction plan in E1.

In practice the road will enable the Israeli occupation authority to close off a vast area in the heart of the West Bank to Palestinians by diverting all Palestinian traffic to it. Consequently the paving of the road will create a separate road system for Israelis and Palestinians (an “apartheid” road).

The construction of the road will have a deadly impact for the future Palestinian State and on the entire area in the heart of the West Bank. Furthermore it will also have a fatal and direct impact on Palestinians living near or within the area.

Dozens of Bedouin communities residing within the area will be cut off from the rest of the West Bank essentially by not having any access road to link them with the rest of the West Bank.
