Palestinian prisoner al-Khatib’s health deteriorating

The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs has warned of the serious health condition of the Palestinian prisoner Mohammed al-Khatib.

In a press statement on Sunday the Commission underlined that prisoner al-Khatib suffers from movement difficulties and stiffness in the toes due to taking large doses of painkillers.

“Prisoner al-Khatib suffers from severe back pain as he was diagnosed with a herniated disc” the Commission pointed out adding that he has also kidney problems.

The Commission stressed that the Israeli prison service refuses to transfer prisoner al-Khatib to a civil hospital calling on the International Committee of the Red Cross and its medical staff to visit al-Khatib and diagnose him.

Prisoner al-Khatib 40 who has been detained since 2003 is serving a 21-year prison term. He is supposed to be released in ten months.
