A Palestinian youth group in Occupied Jerusalem has called for considering next Thursday and Friday “Palestinian flag days” at home and abroad.
In a brief statement on Tuesday the Popular Youth Movement in Jerusalem urged the Palestinian masses in the West Bank the Gaza Strip and 1948 occupied territories and around the world to raise Palestinian flags in streets and at every border point they could reach.
Such a Palestinian step was decided after Jewish settler groups announced their intent to desecrate en masse the Aqsa Mosque and areas around it next Thursday as part of what they call the Jerusalem Day’s flag march.
Recently an extremist temple mount group (Returning to the Mount organization) submitted an official request to the Israeli police asking for permission to allow Jews to enter the Aqsa Mosque in large numbers while carrying Israeli flags next Thursday May 18.
According to the Hebrew media the Israeli flag march will take place on its traditional route which goes through the Muslim Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem.
However different Jewish groups incited their followers to rally at the Aqsa Mosque’s entrances and to try to storm its courtyards during the flag march.
Israeli security minister Itamar Ben Gvir and other far-right ministers and lawmakers are expected to take part in the settler march.
Previous flag marches have seen several settlers acting provocatively and violently against Palestinian citizens attacking homes and stores and chanting racist and blasphemous slurs in the holy city.
