Thursday 15-June-2023

Committees concerned with affairs of Palestinian prisoners have underlined that the Palestinian administrative detainees are adamant on going on an open-ended hunger strike starting next Sunday.

In a press conference held in Ramallah on Thursday the committees said that administrative detainees are reviewing the response of the Israeli Prison Service (IPS) to their demands adding that the final decision on the hunger strike would be announced within the few coming hours.

For his part the head of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission Qadri Abu Bakr underlined that some administrative detainees had their detention orders extended eighteen times in a row adding that the number of Palestinian administrative detainees has reached 1083 detainees.

Meanwhile the head of Palestinian Prisoners’ Society Qaddoura Faris pointed out that the rise in the number of administrative detainees is unprecedented stressing that the detainees will continue resisting the oppressive measures of the IPS by all means possible.

Faris added that a petition might be submitted on Sunday to demand the early release of the cancer-stricken prisoner Walid Daqqa after his health condition severely deteriorated.

Earlier on Wednesday representatives of Palestinian prisoners met with the IPS and discussed several issues. The meeting concluded that the IPS would consider the early release of administrative detainees especially women children and patients including prisoner Daqqa.

The administrative detainees committee had announced that hundreds of administrative detainees will go on an open-ended hunger strike on the 18th of June.
