Member of the political bureau of the Islamic Jihad Movement Khaled al-Batesh has said that his Movement is studying the possibility of not participating in the meeting of the Palestinian factions’ Secretaries General set to be held at the end of the current month in the Egyptian capital Cairo.
Batesh pointed out in a statement on Saturday that the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) security apparatuses escalating political arrest campaign against Palestinian resistance fighters in the West Bank had cast its shadow on the Cairo meeting.
For his part the Secretary-General of the Movement Ziyad al-Nakhalah had stressed that the policy of political arrest adopted by the PA does not provide a positive atmosphere for the meeting.
Around ten leaders from the Islamic Jihad Movement are currently held in the PA prisons in the West Bank.
Two weeks ago Egyptian officials invited Palestinian factions’ Secretaries General to participate in a meeting set to be held in Cairo on the 30th of July.
