Three patients in Israeli Negev jail suffer from medical neglect

Monday 24-July-2023

The Palestinian Commission of Detainees&rsquo and Ex-Detainees&rsquo Affairs has said that three sick prisoners in the Israeli jail of Negev suffer from difficult health conditions and medical neglect.

This came in a statement issued on Monday by the Commission following a visit by its lawyer Fadi Obeidat to the prison.

According to its lawyer prisoner Munder Ekbariya 61 suffers from multiple health problems including a prostate malfunction but the prison administration is reluctant to transfer him to a specialist.

Ekbariya also suffers from chalazion (fatty cyst on his left eyelid) and he is in dire need of medical tests.

Another prisoner called Osaid Jaghoub 22 suffers from diabetes and poor eyesight as a result of high blood sugar and needs to have his eyes examined.

Prisoner Jaghoub also complains of severe pains in his teeth that have started to fall out.

The third prisoner Khaled Nawabit 46 suffers from heart problems and he was scheduled to undergo an open heart operation in Ramallah Hospital to replace the mitral valve but he was arrested before the date that was set for his surgery.

The Commission held the Israeli prison service fully responsible for the medical neglect policy pursued against the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and appealed to international human rights organizations and the Red Cross to assume their responsibilities to the fullest towards the issue of the Palestinian detainees.
