Two wounded prisoners medically neglected in Israeli jails

Tuesday 25-July-2023

The Palestinian Commission of Detainees&rsquo and Ex-Detainees&rsquo Affairs has accused the Israeli prison service (IPS) of medically neglecting two Palestinian wounded prisoners in its jails and being reluctant to provide them with appropriate treatment.

This came in a report issued by the Commission on Tuesday following recent visits by one of its lawyers to prisoners Nadeer Ahmed 21 in Ofer jail and Raja Abahra 29 in Megiddo jail.

According to the Commission prisoner Nadeer Ahmed suffers from multiple health issues including intestinal pains and there are still three bullets inside his abdomen and legs.

Ahmed underwent surgery eight months ago and since then he has not been transferred to any hospital to receive follow-up medical care. He was shot and injured by Israeli forces during his detention.

Regarding the health condition of prisoner Raja Abahra the Commission emphasized the need to deal with his condition seriously so that he does not enter into any new relapse.

The Commission added that Abahra underwent surgery recently after he suffered a gunshot injury in his right side.
