Anadolu news agency said that Turkish president Recep Erdogan held on Wednesday a closed-door meeting with both Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas and head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya at the Turkish presidential complex in Ankara.
No details have been provided regarding the content of that meeting which took place a few days ahead of a major Palestinian factional meeting scheduled to be held next Sunday in Cairo.
The last meeting between top Palestinian leaders dates back to July 5 2022 in Algiers after several years of estrangement.
Erdogan also received Abbas on Tuesday afternoon and held a press conference with him. Erdogan told journalists that Turkey would continue to &ldquosupport the Palestinian cause with all possible means.&rdquo
