An association of Latin American anthropologists recently voted in favor of a resolution voicing solidarity with the Palestinian people and considering Israel a country that practices ethnic cleansing and apartheid against them.
The resolution was adopted earlier this month during the Mercosur Anthropology Conference that was held in Rio De Janeiro Brazil.
The resolution supported by 70 percent of the participants categorizes Israel as a state engaged in ethnic cleansing and racial segregation and calls for boycotting Israel and imposing sanctions on it.
&ldquoThis is a public and academic commitment to the fight against racism&rdquo the resolution stated.
&ldquoBuilding walls and checkpoints everyday modes of occupation and suppression of native populations represent a perverse repetition of the heinous practices of apartheid in the 21st century&rdquo the resolution added.
The resolution has also reorganized the &ldquocrimes against the indigenous population of Palestine during the Nakba.&rdquo
This was not the first time such a stance was taken by anthropologists. The US-based Association of Anthropology and Archaeology which boasts around 12 professors and scholars as its members passed a similar resolution last month with a 71 percent vote in favor.
