Senior Islamic Jihad official Maher al-Akhras entered on Sunday day 19 of the hunger strike he staged in protest at his illegal detention.
Akhras started his hunger strike immediately after he was kidnaped from his home in Silat ad-Dhaher town in Jenin north of the West Bank on August 23 2023.
Akhras’s last hunger strike in 2020 which continued for 103 days drew widespread local and international solidarity.
Meanwhile the Israeli military court of Salem postponed on Sunday the trial of prisoner Akhras after it accepted the indictment filed against him.
According to the indictment Akhras has been accused of being a member of the Islamic Jihad Movement and inciting against Israel.
