Palestinian prisoners to launch protest steps tomorrow

Wednesday 4-October-2023

The Palestinian Captive Movement has announced that the prisoners will shut down tomorrow Thursday the sections of their jails as part of gradual protest steps aimed at confronting repressive measures taken against them by the Israeli prison service.

In a statement published on Wednesday the Captive Movement’s National Committee emphasized that they would not accept any measure that could be taken against the prisoners because of issues that were stirred up on purpose with the aim of imposing a new fait accompli in jails.

The National Committee also condemned the new violent raids on prisoners&rsquo cells in Gilboa jail on Tuesday night accusing Israeli security minister Itamar Ben Gvir of trying to boost his political status at the expense of prisoners&rsquo dignity and rights.

In a related context the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) has warned of its intention to start taking escalatory steps in protest at the arbitrary transfer of its secretary-general Ahmed Saadat and a group of his fellow prisoners.

Senior PFLP official Awad al-Sultan affirmed in press remarks on Wednesday that if Saadat and his comrades were not sent back to Nafha jail by the end of the current week a number of protest steps would be taken gradually in all prisons.
