Malaysian premier phones Haneyya voices solidarity with Gaza

Malaysian premier Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his country’s solidarity with the Palestinian people and the Gaza Strip and stressed its refusal to yield to Western calls for condemning the Hamas Movement.

According to Palestinian news reports Ibrahim voiced his support for Gaza and Hamas during a phone conversation on Monday with head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya.

During the phone call Ibrahim affirmed that Malaysia refused to respond to Western pressures demanding it to condemn Hamas.

The Malaysian premier said that he started to make contacts with different parties inside and outside the region to help stop Israel’s attacks on Gaza and provide it with urgent humanitarian aid.

For his part Haneyya appreciated this Malaysian position and its support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate resistance.

The Hamas leader also thanked Ibrahim for the steps he started to take to put an end to the Israeli military aggression against Gaza and enable its population to receive instant humanitarian aid and relief supplies.

He reiterated the Palestinian people’s right to live with freedom and dignity and establish a viable and fully sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital in accordance with the relevant international resolutions.

In a related context premier Anwar Ibrahim told his country’s parliament on Monday that Malaysia does not agree with Western pressure to condemn Palestinian resistance group Hamas.

&ldquoWestern and European countries have repeatedly asked Malaysia to condemn Hamas in meetings&rdquo Ibrahim said.

&ldquoI said that we as a policy have a relationship with Hamas and this will continue&rdquo he underlined.
