Israel renews attacks on south Lebanon

Monday 6-November-2023

The Lebanese Hezbollah party announced on Monday morning the martyrdom of one of its members in clashes with Israeli army troops at the joint borders. It added that Israeli artillery bombed again the vicinity of Lebanese border towns amid hovering of Israeli reconnaissance planes.

Hezbollah mourned in a statement its fighter Rayan Youssef Darwish from the town of Qulaila in southern Lebanon. This brings the death toll of the party’s martyrs who fell as a result of the Israeli cross-border aggression that started on October 8 to 61.

Meanwhile the vicinity of Lebanese border towns was subjected to Israeli airstrikes. The official Lebanese News Agency reported on Monday that the vicinity of the towns of Naqoura and Labouneh was hit by Israeli shells.

The official agency added that the Israeli army bombed on Sunday evening the surroundings of the towns of Naqoura Alma al-Shaab and Eita al-Shaab and fired flares over them all night long.

An Israeli strike on a car in south Lebanon killed three children and their grandmother on Sunday as the Israeli army said a Hezbollah attack killed an Israeli man in northern Israel.

The Israeli army had announced that an Israeli succumbed to injuries he sustained on Sunday afternoon after an anti-armor shell hit his vehicle in the “Yiftah” area on the Lebanese border.

Hezbollah said it responded to the Israeli strike by firing a barrage of Grad rockets on the town of Kiryat Shmona.

In a statement Hezbollah said it would never tolerate attacks on civilians and that its response would be strong and firm.

Footage circulated by Israeli media showed fires breaking out in Kiryat Shmona.

Meanwhile the Israeli bombardment has led to the injury of two others in a different car.

For his part Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said on Sunday that his government will submit an “urgent complaint” against Israel to the UN Security Council in response to “Tel Aviv’s targeting of civilians and children” in southern Lebanon.

The Lebanese-Israeli border has been witnessing daily exchanges of bombardment between the Israeli army on the one hand and Hezbollah and Palestinian factions in Lebanon on the other hand leaving a number of casualties on both sides.
