Hundreds of thousands rally in Jakarta in support of Gaza

Sunday 12-November-2023

Hundreds of thousands of protesters gathered Sunday morning in the city of Bekasi near the Indonesian capital Jakarta in support of and solidarity with Palestine and in demand for halting Israel’s deadly onslaught that has been relentlessly waged on Gaza for 37 days in a row.

The rally was organized by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) the country’s highest Islamic authority the Muhammadiyah Islamic Organization and a number of key local figures.

The Indonesian protesters waved Palestinian flags and chanted slogans demanding an end to Israel’s aggression on Gaza and its systematic targeting of schools and hospitals.

Last week the National Monument Park Square in central Jakarta witnessed one of the largest marches that took place across the world in support of Gaza with organizers estimating the number of people who participated in it at about one million people.

Indonesia which is considered the largest Islamic country in terms of population has been a staunch supporter of Palestine for decades and has no relations with Israel.

It is noteworthy that today’s demonstration in Bekasi comes at a time when the Israeli occupation army continues its aggression on Gaza for 37 successive days leaving more than 11000 martyrs and over 28000 injured.
