The Hamas Movement has praised the position of Palestinian Christians for limiting their celebration of Christmas this year, given the brutal Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip.
“The holidays of our Christian people this year come in light of the ongoing fascist aggression launched by the Israeli occupation against all of our Palestinian people,” Hamas said in a statement issued on Sunday.
The country’s tiny Christian community, the world’s oldest, has decided to have a reserved, modest commemoration of Christmas as a reaction to the current Israeli war on Gaza.
“The decision of the Palestinian Christians confirms that our people are united on the path to standing firm on our land, preserving our identity, and protecting our Islamic and Christian sanctities,” the statement underlined.
In Bethlehem and beyond, Palestinian Christians are gripped this Christmas with helplessness and pain amid Israel’s war on Gaza.
