The Hamas Movement has responded to an Iranian claim that Operation “Al-Aqsa Flood” in the Gaza Strip was in retaliation for the 2020 assassination of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Qassem Soleimani, describing remarks in this regard as “untrue.”
“We deny the validity of what was stated by the spokesman of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Brigadier General Ramadan Sharif, regarding Operation Al-Aqsa Flood and its motives,” Hamas said in a statement on Wednesday.
“We have repeatedly emphasized the motives and reasons for the operation – primarily the threats to the al-Aqsa Mosque. We also confirm that all Palestinian resistance actions come in response to the presence of the occupation and its ongoing aggression against our people and the holy places,” Hamas added.
Since October 7, Tehran has stated on multiple occasions that it had no prior knowledge of Operation al-Aqsa Flood.
