Global Unity for Peace said on Sunday that over half a million united in a historic Gaza Global Day of Action protest in London on Saturday, fervently calling for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the genocide in Gaza, along with millions around the world.

The International Call to Action is organized by the Anti-War Coalition. The event sends an urgent call to the British government and resonates with over 121 cities across 45 countries, emphasizing the critical need for justice and global solidarity.

In a momentous display of solidarity, over half a million gathered at the Gaza Global Day of Action protest in London, fervently demanding an immediate ceasefire and an end to the longstanding genocide in Gaza. Organized by the Palestinian Forum in Britain, Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Stop the War Coalition, Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Friends of Al Aqsa, and the Muslim Association of Britain, this historic event echoed the urgent call for justice and global solidarity.

Former Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn emphasized, “Our demands are international… we are a movement of millions in solidarity with the people of Palestine.” He added, “Our solidarity extends beyond boundaries, connecting hearts across continents. In our shared pursuit of justice, we stand united for the rights and freedom of the Palestinian people.”

Corbyn added, “The ceasefire must happen, justice must prevail but it’s not brought about by bombardment of Yemen, extending the war into Lebanon, the Red Sea or anywhere else.”

On behalf of the PFB, Lujain Abdullah addressed the crowds saying, “Let this historic event be a reminder that humanity unites people. We do not tolerate racism; we do not tolerate antisemitism and we do not tolerate hate. For our allies are those that have helped raise our voices. Unity is the catalyst of change against oppression. Your actions have ignited a global fire of justice, and we will not stop.”

Abdullah exclaimed addressing the UK politicians. “You had the chance to show us your humanity but you’ve failed to be the representation that this country needed in the international community. Where are your values?”

Mohammad El-Kurd joined the protest from the afflicted Shaikh Jarrah neighborhood in Jerusalem, he emphasized in his speech that “This is our moment to transform the world. We must reject Zionism in all of our institutions because to be anti-racist is to be anti Zionist it does not contain multitudes; it does not have double meanings. Zionism is apartheid, it’s genocide, it’s murder. It’s a racist ideology rooted in cellar expansion and racial domination, and we must root it out of the world.”

Dr. Tareq Mohammad also spoke on behalf of the PFB urging the public to fulfil “our duty in support of Gaza, to demonstrate and display all over social media our demands. Write to your MPs, write to the prime minister, right to all your members of Congress, write to everybody demanding an immediate ceasefire.”

Mustafa Dabbagh, on behalf of the Muslim Association in Britain, reiterated, “Genocide is not a word used lightly… let us, in one voice, demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire, and let us, in one voice, demand a ceasefire now.”

Adding a crucial perspective, Prof. Ghassan Abu Sitta stated, “Israel has violated every aspect of the Genocide Convention… it’s time to recognize that Israel is a liability.”

Inspiration from South Africa

Lujain Abdullah drew inspiration from South Africa’s historic role, “Today marked a historic moment… apartheid can be overcome, genocide can be stopped, and justice can be achieved.”

Continuing, Abdullah said, “We stand on the shoulders of those who fought against injustice. The struggle for Gaza’s freedom is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.” She concluded, “As we stand together in solidarity, let the echoes of our voices reverberate beyond this moment, inspiring a movement that transcends geographical boundaries, advocating for the inherent right to dignity and peace for the people of Gaza.”

Ghassan Abu Sitta emphasized, “The global community must recognize that our silence is complicity. We must stand together to end the atrocities in Gaza.”

Adding, Abu Sitta declared, “It is our moral duty to speak out against the injustices faced by the people of Gaza. Silence is not an option.”

The Palestinian Forum in Britain, alongside the Pro-Palestine coalition, organised this event as a poignant testament to the urgency of addressing the Gaza crisis. The speakers, integrated into the narrative, conveyed a unified plea for immediate international intervention, calling for peace, justice, and an end to the suffering in Gaza.

Millions have taken part in similar demonstrations in more than 120 cities in 45 countries worldwide.
