The Palestinian Water Authority (PWA) confirmed on Wednesday that the Gaza Strip is suffering from a severe crisis in access to water, pointing out that the Israeli occupation army has destroyed 40% of water networks in the Strip, and the main pumps broke down either because of bombardment or due to running out of fuel.

The Water Authority said in a press statement, “in the period before the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, the average per capita of water consumption in the Strip was approximately estimated at 84.6 liter/capita/day.”

However, “after the Israeli aggression, each person in the Gaza Strip has access to 3-15 liters of water per day,” it added.

The PWA underlined that “the total water currently available in the Gaza Strip is about 10-20% of the total water that was available before the aggression,” noting that this quantity is not fixed and is subject to the availability of fuel.

Data showed that only 4% of Gaza population had access to safe and clean water in times before the Israeli aggression on October 7, it highlighted.

Since the beginning of the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, the Israeli occupation forces have resorted to bombing and destroying infrastructure, services, and civilian facilities, especially hospitals and water sources.
