The director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex, Dr. Marwan Abu Saada, appealed to the international community, the World Health Organization, and the United Nations to open an official inquiry into the systematic comprehensive destruction of the facilities of the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, especially Al-Shifa Medical Complex, and targeting health personnel.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Abu Saada called for the establishment of an urgent field hospital in order to treat the wounded with a minimum capacity of 180 beds, given that there is no hospital in Gaza capable of providing the health services that were offered at Al-Shifa Complex.

“Today we witness the horrific scene of the destruction of the largest medical complex in Palestine and the Gaza Strip: Al-Shifa Medical Complex,” Abu Saada said.

He explained, “The complex has a capacity of seven hundred and fifty beds, with more than twenty-six operating rooms. The number of people visiting this complex annually for emergency rooms exceeds a quarter of a million people, with seventeen thousand operations performed annually.”

“Now, after this terrible and devastating siege of Al-Shifa Medical Complex, we announce that it has become out of service forever because of the massive destruction in its facilities and equipment, and the killing of its medical personnel,” he said.

Abu Saada mourned the director of the maintenance department at Al-Shifa Complex, Engineer Bahaa Al-Kilani, the director of the pharmacy department, Zaher Al-Nono, and one of the martyrs of the medical personnel who was killed in the vicinity of the Complex along with his mother.

“The specialized surgical building was bombed entirely and systematically destroyed. We only have Kamal Adwan Hospital left in northern Gaza areas,” he highlighted.
