The Hamas Movement announced that its delegation, led by senior Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya, will fly to Cairo on Sunday in response to an Egyptian invitation to resume Gaza ceasefire talks.

The Movement affirmed in a statement on Saturday its adherence to the position it presented on March 14, which demands a permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces from Gaza, the return of the displaced to their places of residence, ensuring the freedom of movement of people, providing relief and shelter, and reaching a serious prisoner exchange deal.

Delegations from the United States and Israel, in addition to Egyptian and Qatari mediators, will participate in the negotiations that will begin on Sunday.

CIA Director William Burns, Head of Mossad David Barnea, and negotiators from Egypt and Qatar are expected to attend the talks.

The New York Times quoted a senior US official as saying that President Joe Biden wrote to the leaders of Egypt and Qatar urging them to “increase pressure on Hamas to reach a deal with Israel that would lead to a temporary ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages held there.”
