Israeli police stormed on Monday evening the funeral tent of martyr prisoner Walid Daqqa in the city of Baqa al-Gharbiya in 1948 Occupied Palestine, removed the tent, and arrested five people.

Media sources explained that Israeli police broke into the funeral tent, before removing it, and rounded up five relatives of martyr Walid Daqqa, after storming his family home. The police attacked other citizens and fired tear gas at them, the sources added.

On Sunday, the family of martyr Daqqa announced that Israeli occupation forces refused to hand over his body, in an attempt to punish the family, pointing out that the body is still held in the Forensic Medicine Institute in Abu Kabir with no legal justification.

The family called on all humanitarian and human rights institutions and regional officials to seek the release of the martyr’s body, saying, “We had hoped that the (prisoners’ exchange) deal would release Walid alive, and now we hope no deal will be reached without the release of his body.”

Martyr Daqqa, who spent 38 years behind bars, died on Sunday in the Israeli Assaf Harofeh Hospital after years of deliberate medical negligence by the Israeli prison administration.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) revealed on Monday that the number of bodies of martyr prisoners held by the Israeli occupation rose to 26, after the martyrdom of prisoner Walid Daqqa.

The PPS said in a statement, “Until now, no decision has been announced on the fate of the body of the martyr Daqqa.”

The statement listed the names of the martyrs whose bodies are held, to date, in Israeli occupation’s custody.
